Dental Crowns

Cosmetic restorations are terrific for patients who want to improve the appearance of their smiles. Dr. Kotecha and her associates, of Dentistry On 10, are proud to offer a wide variety of cosmetic treatments to assist patients in attaining the beautiful smiles they have always wanted! One cosmetic restoration that is commonly used in her practice is a dental crown.

Dental crowns, which are often referred to as “caps,” are restorations that cover an entire tooth. This may be done for protection, disguising imperfections, or restoring dental implants.

Dental Crowns Before After
Porcelain crowns are “caps” that cover the teeth. Crowns are indicated for very large fillings that are risk of breaking. In this case old, worn out gold cronws are replaced with tooth coloured porcelain crowns.

Protection

Dental crowns provide protection for teeth that have been weakened. Teeth that have large fillings after tooth decay may not have the same strength as they did before. A dental crown can be bonded over the top to keep the tooth strong and prevent further damage from occurring.

Disguising Imperfections

When teeth are permanently stained or have been chipped, dental crowns can be placed over the top to disguise the imperfections. Crowns are an alternative to veneers or dental bonding, and should only be considered if other options to improve the appearance of the tooth have been considered.

What is a dental crown?

Hi, I am Dr. Rena Kotecha from Dentistry on 10 in Mississauga. Today, I want to explain why dental crowns are beneficial.

Dental crowns, or commonly known as caps by a lot of patients are made of strong materials such as porcelain or zirconia. The crowns are used as a cover to protect your natural tooth from breaking.

What is the benefit of getting a dental crown?

If you have a very large filling or you have a tooth that’s already broken, and it needs to be saved and protected.

The tooth can be saved by capping it or crowning it with a strong material so that you can have your tooth for a long time.

Restoration of a Dental Implant

Dental implants are used to restore smiles after tooth loss. The implant is a titanium post that a dentist places into the jawbone during surgery. Then, a dental crown is made to cover the implant and act as a false tooth.

All dental crowns are fabricated by an outside laboratory technician. Dr. Kotecha and her associates prepare the teeth for the placement of crowns by removing a small amount of enamel. Then, impressions are taken and sent to the laboratory to create the custom crowns. When they are sent to Dentistry On 10, typically within two weeks, patients come back to the office for the placement of their permanent crowns to complete their beautiful smiles!

Dental crowns, bridges, and veneers are common restorations used to improve patient smiles, and all are restorative treatments offered through Dentistry On 10. Call Dr. Kotecha and her associates of Dentistry on 10 today and learn more about the various services used to assist patients in feeling better and more confident in their smile—and in themselves!
