Mississauga dentist delivers treatment for range of problems without referring you to an Orthodontist

Female patient with dental braces improving her smile and teeth alignment

When you think about treatments that require the expertise of a Mississauga orthodontist, you might be surprised to learn that many of those services are available from your dentist, Dr. Kotecha can treat:

  • Teeth spacing and alignment issues
  • Problems with bite

You may have been born with gaps between your teeth or crowded teeth. These conditions can also develop over time, due to early childhood habits, disease, or even as part of age-related changes.

Your bite relates to the way the teeth come together when you close your mouth. For your mouth to function as it should, you need to have a proper bite. If your upper and lower teeth don’t line up properly, uneven pressure is placed on your teeth from the forces of chewing. This feature of malocclusion, as bite problems are known, can damage otherwise healthy teeth. The uneven distribution of forces from biting or other functions may cause teeth to shift.

Crooked teeth can cause problems with the bite. In addition to excessive wear on the teeth, malocclusion may be responsible for tension and pain in the arms, head, jaw, and shoulders. Crowding makes it difficult to clean in between and around teeth. Good oral hygiene is necessary to prevent gum disease and to maintain optimal oral health.

Dentistry on 10 can provide a dental appliance or treatment that corrects malocclusion and misalignment, and effectively prevents related problems from developing. Straightening techniques have never been more attractive or comfortable. Depending on the type of problem you have and the severity of the condition, conventional treatments such as functional appliances can redirect the growth of the jaws in still-developing children. You may benefit from Invisalign, a modern removable orthodontic device. A new set of aligner trays are worn every two weeks to correspond with progressive treatment. These trays can be removed for up to 4 hours each day, and work by gradually shifting teeth into proper alignment.
