Mississauga dentist offers sedation and reflexology to ease fears

Dentistry on 10 can’t prevent gum disease and other destructive conditions amongst those individuals who refuse to seek dental care. Yet at the same time Dr. Rina Kotecha and her team empathise with these individuals. There is a reason that the treatment necessary to keep their mouths healthy is delayed. Since oral health is so interconnected to general health, these individuals may also be at greater risk for serious medical conditions.

Some of the conditions may be brought on by discomfort when chewing, which prompts a domino effect of problems resulting from poor nutrition. Other conditions such as cardiovascular disease are thought to be connected to the bacteria and inflammation associated with advanced gum disease or periodontitis.

The fear of pain regularly ranks up there with the sound of the drill and anxiety over shots as top reasons individuals avoid the dentist and the treatments they may desperately need. In addition to offering sedation options to calm anxious patients, Dr. Kotecha encourages them to reconsider how they perceive modern dental offices. For instance, there are newer methods that eliminate the need for shots and surgical cutting. Lasers represent one of the methods that can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, from cosmetic gum recontouring to restorative treatments such as fillings.

You may even opt for reflexology, which is a service that relaxes patients by applying pressure and massage to relieve tension based on the concept that reflex points on the feet, hands, and head are connected to the rest of the body.

Some of these newer or natural methods and techniques can even reduce the need for excessive medications or anaesthesia to manage pain and promote recovery following treatment.

It should be noted that all of these services, from sedation to reflexology, require skill and certification. As it relates to medications and therapies to ease discomfort during the procedure, the criteria necessary to legally offer such sedation depends on the level of sedation offered. Generally, sedative options range from nitrous oxide (or laughing gas) to oral conscious and intravenous sedation.

Procedure - Gum Treatment Testimonial

So, I came to Doctor Reena after I found her as a five-star rating on Google after I was looking for a new dentist and I felt that coming after here I’ve been more diligent. I’ve been actually you know, looking for the specific spots that she’s been telling me to, to, keep on, and she helped prevent some gum disease that I was about to have, especially towards my time with my wedding and she helped me get a whitening afterwards as well. The staff here are competent. They’re very diligent. They’re very on point and do a great job and that’s why I want to continue coming here every time.
