Dental Bridges

Bridges are commonly used in both general and cosmetic dentistry for the restoration of a smile after tooth loss. When one or more teeth are missing, they should be addressed as soon as possible to maintain a beautiful smile. Teeth may shift out of place, causing gaps throughout the smile. Bone loss can occur underneath the gum tissue, and patients experience less chewing and biting efficiency than before. Bridges are an affordable, permanent way to replace missing natural teeth quickly and easily.

Dental Bridges before and after

A fixed bridge is a solution for replacement of a few missing teeth. It is an alternative to implants and removable dentures.

Dental bridges are porcelain restorations that are custom-made for a patient to improve their smile after tooth loss. It is called a “bridge” because it “bridges the gap” between teeth. Using the surrounding teeth as support, the bridge holds a false tooth that restores the smile. Dr. Kotecha and her associates prefer bridges made of porcelain, but they can also be made from gold, alloys, or even a combination of these with porcelain for strength and beauty.

The creation and placement of bridges is a relatively simple process. First, patients work with their dentist to determine that bridges are the best solution for their dental problems. Second, Dr. Kotecha and her associates prepare the surrounding teeth by removing a small amount of enamel to ensure a secure fit of the bridge. Third, impressions are made of the teeth and sent to an outside laboratory, and a temporary bridge is adhered in place. Fourth, patients return when the bridges are completed and sent to Dr. Kotecha and her associates for placement. After the bridges are bonded in place, patients can go about their day with their newly restored smiles!

A bridge is a non-surgical way to replace one or many teeth. A bridge uses the adjacent teeth as anchors to support the missing tooth or teeth. With today’s dental advancements, a bridge can be fabricated in a fairly short period of time, using a metal or nonmetal foundation. Don’t let that missing tooth affect the way you speak and smile. Bridges yield immediate results that last a lifetime. Ask your dentist what type of bridge may be right for you.

Bridges are often suggested for patients who do not have sufficient bone structure for dental implants or for those who are looking for a more affordable alternative. Bridges are more permanent than partial dentures. These dentures are meant to be removable, while bridges are bonded in place for long-term restoration. Patients considering restorative treatments such as bridges, dentures, or dental implants are encouraged to speak with Dr. Kotecha and her associates of Dentistry On 10 to make an educated decision on the best restoration for their unique situations.
