Mississauga dentist offers affordable payment options to help patients avoid emergencies caused by delayed treatment

University of Toronto researchers reported that more than 17 percent of Canadians avoided professional dental care due to cost concerns. As you might expect, these people had more decay, were missing more teeth, and experienced oral pain often.

Potential Emergency No. 1: Tooth decay

While you may associate emergency care with accidents, such as a knocked-out tooth, urgent needs also arise from untreated conditions. Decay and gum disease can be chronic, ongoing, and progressive. Tooth decay is rooted in the destructive acid from mouth bacteria thriving on sugars found in food and drink. In its earliest stages, decay can appear as a white spot on the tooth, which is a sign that this acidic attack is eroding the minerals in your natural protective enamel.

As this process continues, more minerals are lost and eventually a cavity or hole may form. A filling is a common and easy procedure to bring the tooth back to health. If treatment is delayed, the decay can continue to eat through the tooth. Eventually the pulp in the inner chamber may be affected. This severe form of decay requires extensive treatment, such as root canal therapy and a dental crown. If the damage is too great for the tooth to be saved with root canal treatment, your only option may be an extraction. Tooth replacement options are critical to your health, but they are certainly more costly than options geared toward avoiding decay and preventing disease. A bridge or dental implant-supported crown may be recommended.

Potential Emergency No. 2: Gum disease

While decay has to do with the hard tissues or teeth, periodontal or gum disease affects the soft tissues that surround and support the teeth. Every person has the potential to develop gum disease, because every mouth contains the bacteria that cause this destructive condition. Not everyone develops gum disease. The distinction between those who develop the disease and those who don’t typically is traced back to oral hygiene. When the sticky film produced by food, mucus, and bacteria isn’t removed with effective brushing and flossing, this plaque hardens and becomes tartar or calculus. The Dentistry on 10 staff has the tools to remove tartar, which once hardened can’t be removed with a toothbrush and at-home techniques alone. In turn, the importance of professional cleanings is obvious.

If professional cleanings are avoided, the gums can become inflamed. Gingivitis is the earliest stage of gum disease, but it can progress to advanced periodontitis if proper treatment isn’t received. The teeth may begin to separate from the surrounding tissue. The spaces between these soft and hard tissues harbour bacteria under the gumline. The pockets increasingly grow larger, and can threaten the stability of your tooth. The tooth may fall out or an extraction may be required, followed by a dental restoration to replace the missing tooth.

As your affordable dentist in Mississauga, Dentistry on 10 never wants you to delay getting the care you need due to cost. Our Happy Patients Say

Procedure – Gum Disease Testimonial

Hi I’m at dentistry on 10 and I had gum disease and they treated it. Laser treatment, laser gum treatment and I just want to say it was awesome. I have the rota dent brush and I use that daily and it keeps my mouth fresh and clean and hopefully it’ll prevent any future issues. The staff here is amazing, always so polite Doctor Rena rocks. I’ve seen her for years totally rocks. She is very kind gentle, especially if you don’t like the dentist. She’s the one to go to because she’s there for you and she’s sensitive to your needs and she rocks. Just want to say I had a root canal with her many, many, years ago and it she’s so gentle. I don’t know what the big issue is with the root canals, so that’s my feelings. All good. Highly recommend.
