Dental Foot Reflexology
Research shows that 80% of people fear going to the dentist and 50% avoid dental care because of this anxiety. Since Reflexology can induce deep relaxation, including it during dental work can be very beneficial to both the client and the dentist. If a client is relaxed, evidence shows that the dentist is more likely to relax too. Reflexology can help lessen fear, aid in pain reduction and also improve the healing process.
What is Reflexology:
Reflexology is a method of stimulating the body’s healing mechanisms by applying focused pressure on specific points of the foot. The therapy, derived from ancient Chinese and Indian diagnostic and therapeutic techniques, is based on the idea that organs of the body are represented on the feet, making them a vital map of the body.
To Begin:
The client fills out a short form prior to treatment to get a brief description of the client’s general health. The length of the reflexology session is determined at this time along with input from Dr. Rina Kotecha, DMD. A 30, 45 or 60 minute reflexology treatment is chosen.
During Dental Treatment:
- The client is reclined in the dental chair and the reflexology session begins.
- Particular attention is paid to the jaw, teeth, spine and solar plexus reflex points.
- The session ends with a foot massage using essential oils.
