Dentist near Port Credit discusses modern alternative to conventional tooth replacement – the dental implant

Dentistry on 10 devotes an entire section on this website to dental implants for good reason. It is not an overstatement to say that implants have revolutionised dentistry. Traditionally, if you were amongst the almost 94 percent of Canadian adults missing at least some teeth, you had few options.

You may have learned to live with missing teeth, which promotes bone loss that has devastating effects on the appearance of not only your smile but also your entire face. Consider how facial features get their support from teeth. When that support is gone, tissues sag and you may appear older than your years.

There is also the issue of function. Without teeth, your speech can suffer. Eating may become difficult. Nutrition suffers and you may no longer find pleasure in foods you once enjoyed.

Traditional tooth replacement options such as removable dentures do nothing to prevent bone loss. In fact, dentures may accelerate this devastating loss of bone. Since the underlying bone doesn’t get stimulation with a removable dental appliance, the bone can atrophy like muscles may atrophy during prolonged inactivity. As your face shape changes, you may find the dentures don’t fit as well as they once did. You may recall older relatives struggling with the fit of their dentures, and embarrassing instances of loose or slipping dentures.

The preferred, modern alternative

Dental implant-supported crowns may be used to replace one, some, several or all teeth. The idea is to rebuild the missing tooth so that it closely resembles your natural tooth. A tooth is actually different parts, so to design a tooth that feels, looks, and behaves naturally you need to build those parts.

The implant replaces your tooth’s root, which holds the rest of the tooth in place. It is made from medical-grade titanium, a biocompatible material that safely fuses with the underlying bone. The implant is placed in the jawbone and, once the bone has fused as part of the natural osseointegration process, a connector piece or abutment is added. This piece connects the dental crown to the implant securely. The dental crown is the tooth-coloured structure visible above the gumline.

If you are missing all of your teeth, dental implants can securely hold these modern hybrid dentures into place as the titanium post is embedded in the underlying bone. The common problems long associated with conventional dentures are eliminated. Bone loss is an even bigger concern with long-term complications. Since the new teeth are effectively embedded in the underlying bone by way of the implant, it gets stimulation from the act of chewing and other functions. When you use your bone, you don’t lose it. Concerns over bone resorption and all of its harmful consequences are minimised.

Procedure – Gum Disease Testimonial

Hi, my name is Naren. I have been coming to dentistry on 10 for at least five years, probably a lot longer than that. I first heard about Doctor Rena, through a friend of mine who was my roommate back in college and the, the, thing that attracted me to her right off the bat is she went to Harvard of course, you know Harvard is one of the top schools in the world, so you know studying at Harvard and Learning dentistry Harvard, I’ve never met anybody who went to Harvard, so that was the number one thing. But when I came here, it’s not the Harvard that I ended up staying here for. It’s because she’s a very caring person and she has a team that really is caring. So, for example, you know I, I, have some health conditions and you know taking care of my gums is really, really, important and I’m like not that good at taking care of myself. So you know she just, just, stuck with me, just kept at me and, you know, just taught me things and talk to me about things and you know. And when I did, you know, kind of mess up and you know, get gum disease again. You know she you know, stuck with me. So, like for me personally, I know people come for dentistry for lots of reasons, some people you know, care about their smile and things like that. For me personally, it’s the health because I have a history of health issues in my family and I know the importance of, you know, taking care of your gums and you overall mouth and health so I would strongly recommend Doctor Rena if you really care about your health. If you really want somebody who’s not just trying to, you know, give you things you don’t need, but really, who’s trying to focus on what’s good for you, helping you achieve your goals. She’s very caring, very, very patient, very, very, gentle and, and, she’s there for you. So, it’s almost like having a partner in health who’s working with you to make your life better. So, we all need it, and especially as we get older when we are in our 40s and 50s, we need to take care of our health and without doctor Rena I don’t think I would have the comes I have and I don’t think I would be working on my health. Thank you very much Doctor Rena and I would, absolutely without a hesitation, recommend anybody and my entire family comes here as well as my two kids and My wife. So, thank you for being an amazing dentist and thank you for caring about people who live in the neighbourhood and their health.
